The birds of the ecological farm of Verdeaurora

At the beginning of last year of 2016, we embarked on a new project that we have been designing for years. In collaboration with the company specializing in ecotourism and biodiversity conservation, Birding Canarias began to create an Ornithological Reserve in the ecological farm of Verdeaurora.

The main objective of the Ornithological Reserve is to create a space for the conservation and observation of birds that nest in Fuerteventura and / or visit it during migratory or winter passes, ecotourism is used as a tool for dissemination and dissemination of natural values .

For this we have dedicated around two hectares to the planting of cereal to attract the granivorous birds, planted around thirty fruit trees, created hedges with more than eighty tarajales and twenty Canarian palm trees, raised small dry stone walls, fenced an exclusion zone and built a 500 square meter wetland that serves as a drinking fountain and feeding area for different species of birds and insects.

For the correct functioning, a medium-term management model has been designed to increase the biological richness of the farm, applicable to the entire area that Verdeaurora manages and which is bearing its first fruits. The Ornithological Reserve will be presented to the public in October of this same year coinciding with the World Bird Day.
