> Day 1: discovering the north of Fuerteventura.
Belt on, keys in contact, and we start our vacation through the island majorera. We start in the northern area where we will visit the most characteristic and beautiful villages of Fuerteventura, Corralejo and El Cotillo. The trip along the coast gives a spectacular image.
Surely you will have seen them in a photo, but when you see them in person they will leave you with your mouth open. Yes, we are talking about the Dunes of Corralejo, which will be the first stop of this day. In addition, to the great white sand dunes we can enjoy beaches such as: Alzada, El Moro, Bajo Bajo or El Pozo, you can go walking from one to another. In one of the Great Beaches of Corralejo you can see how tourists or majoreros practice surfing, kitesurfing or windsurfing. You can cheer up and catch some wave!
After spending the morning in the crystalline waters of Corralejo we return to the car and to the FV-1 road destination El Cotillo. Before reaching the final destination, we will make a stop at Calderón Hondo in Lajares, where there is a 5km path that will take us to the crater of the volcano where the nice squirrels will be waiting to welcome you to one of the best preserved volcanoes in Fuerteventura .
With new photos on the mobile phone and after a short break we return to the roadtrip through Fuerteventura to reach our last stop. We take the FV-109 towards El Cotillo where one of the best sunsets on the Canary Island awaits us. When you arrive at the small fishing village you will be in the most original Fuerteventura, enter its alleys and feel one more majorero. When the sun goes down, move to the beach of Aljibe de la Cueva where you will witness one of the best sunsets. El Cotillo has many restaurants where you can rest and gain strength.
Where to stay?
Fuerteventura is a very tourist destination and you will have no problem finding the best accommodation for you. In the area of El Cotillo we recommend Casa Marinera I, the typical whitewashed majorera house by the sea. Ideal for charging batteries and enjoying the Atlantic Ocean.
For this route you will need to take:
- Comfortable clothes and shoes for the hiking trail
- A cap or hat to cover you from the sun
- Sunscreen. Remember to apply it continuously
- The sunglasses are essential
- Water and something to eat, since in Corralejo there are no bars or restaurants
> Day 2: the west, pure nature.
Second day of the route by car and we will get to know the west of Fuerteventura. For today we propose you to discover the most desert landscapes of the island majorera, the fauna and vegetation of Fuerteventura is different from what you have seen before. The Rural Park of Betancuria occupies an area of 16,544.3 hectares and is a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), ecotourism is essential for today. There are hiking trails with different distances and difficulties that will take you to know the volcanoes, wetlands, cliffs or ravines of Betancuria Park.
We recommend the route Betancuria – Mirador Morro Velosa, a circular route of 7.5 km in which you will surround the city of Betancuria and pass through one of its most important areas such as the Archaeological Museum, Aloe vera crops, the hermitages of “San Diego and San Francisco” or the viewpoint “Morro Velosa”, from which you have a privileged view of the north and center of the island.
A little further on you will find the Mirador de Guise and Ayose guarded by the two great statues of the Ancient Kings of Fuerteventura. In Betacuria there are several restaurants where you can eat typical Majorera gastronomy.
In the afternoon we head to the Ajuy Caves, another of the places you can not miss on your trip to Fuerteventura. On the black sand beach you can relax, since it is not the most crowded but tourists visit it very often. On one of the sides of the beach you will see a natural rock construction, right there are the Ajuy Caves. A walk built along the coast travels the rock giving visitors a viewpoint where you can breathe fresh air and forget about everyday worries, as well as enjoying a spectacular sunset
Where to stay?
One of the best accommodation options in Fuerteventura is camping. The Jury, the beach of the Valley or El Junquillo are some of the areas where the town hall of Fuerteventura allows camping without any problem. However, when you go to organize the holidays, check that the places you visit and where you want to camp are allowed as you can face fines and penalties.
For this route you will need to take:
- Hiking boots and comfortable walking clothes
- Hiking stick
- Sunscreen. Apply it several times a day
- Water and snacks for energy
- Swimwear
- A cap or visor to cover you from the sun
> Day 3: relax between Aloe vera crops.
We are in the equator of the trip and today it is a little relaxing. Inside the car we take the FV-2 and head towards Verdeaurora Bio Farm. It is the perfect destination to charge batteries, get to know the culture, discover nature and taste Majorera gastronomy. We have activities for all ages and all tastes. Night comes, and after admiring the sky of Fuerteventura it is time to go to sleep. In the ecological farm there are three of the houses of Momento rural with all the comforts and feel as if you were at home. An idyllic and unique place to recharge batteries, connect with nature and learn about majorera customs.

> Day 4: towards the best beaches.
When you are looking for Fuerteventura, the southern beaches appear in the images and are among the most visited on the Canary Island. And it is that the southern zone hides great relics that it is difficult to overlook. Before setting foot on the Jandía Peninsula, we enter the fishing village of Tarajalejo, whose gray sand beach is one of the most curious.
After taking a walk along the shore and through the town we take the car and head towards Costa Calma. A long beach of fine white sand surprises us at the first glance, are we in the Caribbean? The beach of Costa Calma offers an infinite range of activities for all audiences, family beach, water sports, sunbathing in the hammocks of the resorts that will make you spend a splendid day.
From the eastern part of the south, we have to put on our mountain boots again and take the route to another of the most magical beaches of Fuerteventura, Cofete. We have 22 kilometers ahead to be surprised with the desert landscapes. On the path to the south we will pass through the Windward Beach of Jandía, near the Natural Park of Jandía and Cape “El Islote”. A tour of the south coast that will end in Punta Playa, very close to Cofete, where we can take a bath to calm the legs and activate the circulation or visit Villa Winter or Pico de la Zarza within the natural park.
With the batteries charged and the backpack on our shoulders we return to our starting point to rest and face our last day in Fuerteventura.
Where to stay?
Costa Calma es la zona más turística de la isla por lo que no faltan resorts y hoteles de lujo y adaptados a todos los bolsillos. Una elección ideal para descansar y sentir que realmente estamos de vacaciones. Sin embargo, si quieres hacer tu viaje toda una aventura y vivirla al límite en El Caracol, ubicado en el pueblo de Tarajalejo, nuestra primera visita en este día, o en Agando (Gran Tarajal) puedes acampar.
Costa Calma is the most tourist area of the island so there are no shortage of luxury resorts and hotels and adapted to all budgets. An ideal choice to rest and feel that we are really on vacation. However, if you want to make your trip an adventure and live it to the limit in El Caracol, located in the town of Tarajalejo, our first visit on this day, or in Agando (Gran Tarajal) you can camp.

> Day 5: surprise yourself with the southeast of Fuerteventura.
Last day but no less important and not the quietest, we will have time to rest… The southeast of Fuerteventura has great and beautiful beaches that you can not miss. The roadtrip by car through Fuerteventura on the fifth day starts at the Sotavento Beach in Jandía, one of the wildest and you will feel like on a desert island because there is hardly anyone. To get there you must cross a dirt road at the “Sotavento” Viewpoint.
On this beach you have two options:
- Stay in it and breathe the pure air sheltered from tourist crowds.
- Continue the roadtrip and discover any of the beaches that you will find on the road to Morro Jable such as: Playa del Mal Nombre, Playa Salvaje, Playa de Esquinzo or Playa de Butihondo.
But when the time comes to visit Morro Jable, there is no excuse. It is the most populated municipality on the Canary Island and attracts many tourists. We will make a small stop at the “Morro Jable” Lighthouse and in its old town. If you arrive at lunchtime there is a wide range of hotels where you can taste the cuisine of Fuerteventura such as papas con mojo, gofio or the freshest fish.
The last stop of this trip and this roadtrip will be the Punta de Jandía Lighthouse. It is interesting to visit it since it is the southernmost point of Fuerteventura and also, inside it houses an exhibition on the seabed and cetaceans that live in this area.
For this route you will need to take:
- Sunscreen
- A beach towel to lay on the sand to sunbathe
- The sunglasses are essential
- If you travel with children remember to bring drinks such as water or juices, plus some food.
- It is an area recommended for traveling with children, since it is a very tourist area. They will have a great time!

These five days as a family we had a great time and we are already counting the hours to repeat again a roadtrip through Fuerteventura. There are always new things to see and places to discover.
